  • November  2009 —  Participation in the annual colloquium of the International Network on the process of production of handicap which took place in Quebec City under the theme “Urban areas, municipal policies and people with disabilities”.
  • October  —  Polio AwarenessThroughout October, to mark Polio Awareness Month, we sent information capsules on polio and post-polio syndrome to several organizations across the province that are likely to have members affected by polio. In addition, we took part in the radio show “Au carrefour des personnes handicapées”, broadcast on CKIA FM 88.3 Radio Basse-Ville. The radio interview with Ms. Andrée Pomerleau, from the Carrefour Familial des personnes Handicapés, in Quebec City, aimed to provide information on polio and post-polio syndrome to listeners, in order to raise their awareness of this disease.


  • March  2010 —  Participation in a coffee-conference organized by the AMEIPH. Raising awareness  about polio and post-polio syndrome, sensitizing participants and giving them information.
  • Creation of a simple  explanatory leaflet  on post-polio syndrome (PPS). This was later replaced by the series of 6 leaflets aiming not only to explain the PPS, but to describe the resources available for those affected. (Supporting Our Members – 2012)
  • Creation of a  promotional brochure  for the Association Polio Québec

March  2011 — Launch of a new website  to better present the content, make navigation easier and more accessible, then modernize the design.

October  2013 — Transition of the website to a WordPress interface to facilitate its updating, its consultation on several media (including tablets and smart phones) and to make it interactive.

  • 2014 Production of an information video  on the issues of polio and post-polio syndrome. This video is intended primarily for the general public, but is a first step towards making the medical population aware of the late effects of polio. 
  • Partnership for the publication of an  article on the post-polio syndrome  in the journal of the Order of Nurses of Quebec.

2015 Launch of a socio-financing campaign. The funds will be used to create tools aimed at raising public and medical awareness of the issues of polio and post-polio syndrome in Quebec.





  • Answer to dozens of questions and requests for support and referral to other organizations or professionals per year.
  • Organization of a day of conferences during the Annual General Meeting. The purpose of the conferences is to inform and support the members of Polio Quebec.
  • Since October 2008  — Sending about twenty  FlashInfo-Rapide  per year, a one-time information bulletin sent to members by e-mail.
  • Agreement with Dr. Linda Edgar, Ph.D., to sell  her book "Mastering the Art of Coping in Good and Bad Times"  from our website (note that half the price of sale goes to Polio Quebec). Since June 11, 2010  — Occasional meetings (contact and information) with our members in the Quebec region and with all those in the region who have been affected by polio and who wanted to attend.
  • Sending a member directory to facilitate exchanges and interactions between members.

Support polio and PPS research

Every year, Polio Quebec donates an amount to support research carried out by the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital on polio and its consequences.

Financial contribution to an event in support of the action of the Rotary clubs of Jean de Brébeuf College, Westmount and Saint-Laurent.

2011

Helen D’Orazio took advantage of her trip to Australia to meet several components of the Polio Australia network and consolidate our ties with this dynamic organization.

2009

June  —  Presentation of an honorary plaque to Rotary International  for their hard work in the eradication of polio. This plaque was presented at the 2010 Rotary International Convention, held in Montreal to mark their 100th anniversary in Canada. It was Mr. John Kenny, president of Rotary International, who accepted the plaque presented by Gilles Besner and Stewart Valin, president and vice-president of Polio Quebec.
